Introduction
INTERPOL provides investigative resources to its member countries and their law enforcement officials. These resources include a secure communications network and databases containing information supplied by its member countries on wanted persons, persons with criminal histories, persons involved in criminal activity, missing persons, stolen and lost passports and travel documents, stolen vehicles, and other law enforcement information. INTERPOL actions are taken within the limits of existing laws in different countries and in the spirit of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. INTERPOL's Constitution prohibits ‘any intervention or activities' of a political, military, religious or racial character. The new office of INTERPOL - INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI) has been established in Singapore with functions to build operational police capacity, innovation and research, and global partnership with international organization, governments, public and private sector. National Central Bureau (NCB) – Kathmandu Nepal was nominated 100th member of INTERPOL by 36th General Assembly Session held in Kyoto, Japan on 27th September 1967. The NCB – Kahmandu was established since then to ensure liaison with various departments in the country, with those bodies in other countries serving as NCB, as well as with the Organization's General Secretariat. NCB - Kathmandu is staffed with sworn law enforcement officers serving as analysts, technicians and administrators. NCB-Kathmandu serves as the national point of contact for all INTERPOL matters in Nepal, and coordinates international investigative cooperation between INTERPOL’s 190 member countries throughout the world and local law enforcement agencies in Nepal. The objectives of INTERPOL- Kathmandu is to facilitate cross border police co-operation, support and assist all organizations, authorities & services whose mission is to prevent or combat international crimes and facilitate international police co-operation even where diplomatic relations between particular countries do not exist. NCB – Kathmandu uses INTERPOL's secure global police communication system called I-24/7 to share information, coordinate police activities and access INTERPOL databases. NCB-Kathmandu transmits messages about wanted fugitives, kidnapped children, terrorism, illegal drug trafficking, and other criminal activities to assist police investigations around the world. Head of NCB-Nepal (Kathmandu), Inspector General of Nepal Police, is the focal point of contact and the representative of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal. Services and Assistance Provided by NCB Kathmandu NCB-Kathmandu is operational 24/7 and provides assistance to all law enforcement agencies as well as to police authorities in other INTERPOL member countries. The services and assistence provided by NCB-Kathmandu include (but not limited to) the following:
Requesting Assistance from the NCB - Kathmandu The request for assistance from NCB-Kathmandu must be in writing and come from a bonafide law enforcement agency. The request should include name of agency, case or reference number, contact information (Phone(24/7)/Fax/mail,etc.). In urgent circumstances, NCB-Kathmandu will accept an initial request via telephone, but it cannot transmit the information internationally until a written request is received. NCB Kathmandu assists law enforcement authorities conducting their official duties. NCB Kathmandu is not assigned to undertake directly the cases of private individuals or entities. Private individuals seeking assistance in individual matters should contact local police offices or other appropriate law enforcement officials. However, any information regarding crime and criminals are most welcome; the information received thereof shall be maintained confidential.
