Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Bahadur Karki, 33rd Chief of Nepal Police was appointed by the decision of cabinet of ministers on 10th November 2025. He began his professional endeavors in the Nepal Police on March 31, 1998, as a Police Inspector and with the career spanning nearly three decades, he has steadily risen through the ranks to the highest leadership positions in the organization. His professional growth was further enriched by his participation in over 22 different national and international specialized policing and contemporary courses most notably crime investigation, operational command, human right, emergency response and high-level national security.
Over the course of his illustrious career, IGP Karki has held some significant charges with the likes of Butwal, Kaski, Kapilvastu and Kathmandu. Additionally, he had some brief stints as an officer in CIAA, Narcotics Control Bureau, Special Bureau, UN & Interpol NCB, HR Violation Monitoring Unit and strategic roles in IGP secretariat over the years. His illustrious career also encompasses notable contributions to United Nations Peacekeeping Operations, having served with distinction in UNMISET and UNMIT in East Timor, as well as MINUSTAH in Haiti. Furthermore, he also held an esteemed charge of Lumbini Province Police Office as Deputy Inspector General of Police followed by HR Development Department of Police Headquarters as Additional Inspector General of Police. He also held the crucial role as the head of Kathmandu Valley Police before being appointed as the Inspector General. Currently, he also serves as the Head of National Central Bureau (NCB) Kathmandu.
In recognition of his exemplary service, IGP Karki has received numerous honors and accolades, including the Prabal Janasewa Shree, United Nations Service Medal and the Foreign Service Medal too. He is also the recipient of numerous rewards and official commendations throughout his career.
IGP Karki was born on July 30, 1972, in the modest part of Gulmi district. He currently resides in Chundevi Kathmandu with his wife and two daughters. He holds a Master’s degree in Political Science and Bachelor’s degrees in Law, Education, and Humanities & Social Sciences. Known for his integrity, utmost professionalism, sincerity along with exceptional commanding ability, he has been vocal for people and problem-oriented policing which ultimately proved to be instrumental in his professional success.
