Deputy Inspector General of Police Rajendra Prasad Bhatta was appointed as Director of the Research, Planning and Development Directorate (RP&DD) by a decision of the Government of Nepal, Ministry of Home Affairs (Honorable Home Minister) on 18 January 2026. He began his professional career in the Nepal Police on 3 March 1998 as a Police Inspector. With a career spanning nearly three decades, he has steadily risen through the ranks, attaining senior leadership positions within the Directorate.
His professional development has been further enriched through participation in more than sixteen national and international specialized and contemporary policing courses, notably in crime investigation, police management, human rights, and high-level national security.
Over the span of his eminent career, DIGP Bhatta has held several key assignments in districts such as Salyan, Rukum, Nawalparasi(East), and Surkhet. In addition, he has served in various capacities within Traffic Police, Police Training Centres, as well as in diverse operational and managerial roles. His illustrious career also includes notable contributions to United Nations Peacekeeping Operations, having served with distinction under UNMIK in Kosovo and UNMISS in South Sudan.
Furthermore, he served as Senior Superintendent of Police at the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office and the Karnali Province Police Training Centre, followed by his assignment as Deputy Inspector General of Police at the Lumbini Province Police Office. Currently, he is serving as the Director of the Research, Planning and Development Directorate (RP&DD).
In recognition of his exemplary service, DIGP Bhatta has received numerous honors, rewards, and official commendations, including Grade Increments and Certificates of Appreciation.
DIGP Bhatt was born on 22 August 1975 in Kanchanpur District. He currently resides in Bhaisepati, Lalitpur, with his wife and two children. He holds a Master’s degree in Political Science and a Bachelor’s degree in science, known for his integrity, professionalism, sincerity, and exceptional leadership and command abilities, his strong advocacy for public-oriented and problem-oriented policing has been instrumental in his professional achievements.
